Hello, I am new to this forum. A friend has offered me a GST Perpetual (unfortunately, not as gift but, more like a very expensive self-gift). The price is $8k. Is this a reasonable price? Can the watch be an everyday watch or does it need to be babied? I have been trying to locate some sort of review so that I can make a decision. Any advise? Thank you!

Hi BG,

If it is in good condition, I think $8k is a great price. Since it is a complicated movement, service costs will be quite high.

I have seen several GST Perpetuals for sale and often they are about 7 to 8 K EURO's, that's well over $10k.

I believe the movement is based on a Valjoux 7750 with the perpetual calender module on top. I think it is one of the most robust Perpetual Calenders around.

That said, I would not wear it when I go mountainbiking or golfing, but I don't wear any mechanical watch in those cases.

Kind regards,

Cinq

I have a GST Perpetual Titanium and I love it. It is the sportiest perpetual watch IWC ever made and I use it as such. It can make for a great daily watch and does not need to be babied at all. The last edition of my watch retailed for $14k and I think $8k is reasonable if your friend's watch is in excellent condition. Go here and read more about this great watch.
