Got a new Bulova Accutron Chronograph 63C001, beautiful automatic watch, but I could not get it to run. Owners manual (as usual) was no help. After 3 e-mails with dealer, it appears the chronograph function has to be engaged to get it to run. I had to push the start button, and all was well. It seems a strange way for a chronograph to function. Any thoughts?

Cut your losses early on. Swear at it, lots, then chuck it in the closest creek and buy something from 40 years ago on ebay.

The Valjoux 7751 movement in your Accutron has a seconds hand is located on the 24 hour sub-dial. The stopwatch seconds hand at the center of the movement only runs when the chronograph is activated.

This watch only runs when the chronograph start button is engaged. if you stop the sweep second hand the second hand on the subdial at 9 o'clock stops running after 10 seconds (and the watch stops ticking). So is this a defective instrument or not? That Invicta on Youtube is a sweet watch.

Assuming that the watch is fully wound, my guess is that the movement is defective.

Have you pre-wound the watch 15-20 times before wearing it? That is necessary to allow for proper power reserve before the rotor takes over the job.
