The Hamilton Ventura - the world's first electric watch - was unveiled at New York's Savoy Plaza Hotel on January 3, 1957. The watch ran for one year on a battery - and turned the industry upside down.

Funny isn't it. Battery powered watches were mini-miracles. Now watch geeks only want autos. I wonder what will be hot 50 years from now.

It took a team from Hamilton 10 years to develop the watch. The magic however, is that it is still one of their top sellers today! Amen.

There were other companies in the race to develop such a watch...It was like the arms race or the race to the moon!
