Need some info on manual wind Cal 1861.....I know power reserve is around 48 hrs give or take... But can you over wind it? IF you don't get 48 hrs +/- is there a break in period?.....TIA!

It's 48 hrs or thereabouts and you cannot overwind it my friend. When you are winding the watch for the first time, it should take around 40 winds. Thereafter if you wind it at the same time daily it could be anywhere around 24 - 27 winds. This will also depend on how you use the watch since using the chronograph will take up some of the power reserve.

Hope this helps.

Be well now

Just to add,

There is no clutch on the 1861, so you wind it until it stops... You can bend stuff up inside if you try to force it any further..

When I wear my Speedy with the 1861, I pick it up off the dresser last thing before leaving the room and start winding it. It's usualy fully wound before I get to the kitchen (24 to 27 winds, as Zin pointed out) and I put it on.. routine..

There is no reason to wind it at any other time...

You'll know when you reach the fully-wound position Mr Gregger. The winding will simply come to a halt. You should not try to force it beyond this stage but you should get to this point or you wont be working on full power reserve.

I can understand one being a little apprehensive about this to begin with but once you get it to the point beyond which it will not wind, you'll know what this feels like next time. Obviously do not wind it aggressively, just normal pressure while being on the look out for the stop position.

Have a nice day now

Heh Mr Gregger

3 turns won't get you very far.:biggrin::biggrin: It's no problem. Just feel your way as you go. You'll recognize it when it comes to a stop and then be wondering why it is you never thought of doing it this way before.

It's quite fail safe unless of course you wind your watch with a pair of pliers which I very much doubt!!! ;)

Be well pal
