I got my 9937 recently, with SW200 movement. This is my first (real) automatic watch and has been quite fun. I actually bought a TAG 2000 exclusive automatic (used) at the same time, both for Christmas. I have been wearing my Invicta as much as the TAG, about 50/50. I think that's saying a lot for the Invicta. I wasn't sure I'd like such a big watch but now I love it and I feel the TAG is small. :)

My only "reservation" about the Invicta is the fact that it looks so much like a Rolex. My family was calling it my "knock-off" just to annoy me at Christmas. The way I see it is that I just get watches cause I like the looks. I'm not a collector and I can't justify the price difference for a Rolex.

I have a fake Omega seamaster that I bought in Asia. I've never worn it out of the house. Too ashamed. So I'm glad the invicta says Invicta on it and that it's not an illegal Rolex copy. But I still feel a bit weird wearing it.

For example when my wife & I went to a jewelry store to shop for watches for her just before Christmas, I purposely wore the TAG. I didn't want to be in a store that sells Rolex wearing my Invicta.

Another example, yesterday I met a guy to deliver a camera lens that I was selling. I didn't bother putting on my watch cause I was just walking down the street. When we met, he was wearing a black Rolex sub. I was kind of glad that I didn't have my Invicta on. I think it could be potentially embarassing. "Ah you have a Rolex too?" "No this in an Invicta." (Invicta isn't known here in Europe so I imagine no one would know what it was and just think it's a Rolex copy).

Am I being silly? I love the watch, and I wouldn't pay $4k more to have "the same thing" with the Rolex name. (I know it's not the same, but I really don't care if the movement is Sellita or Rolex, etc. I mean I appreciate Rolex, its history, the quality, etc. it's just not something I'm willing to pay for at this time).

I feel like I wouldn't feel this way if I had purchased a TAG Aquaracer that also looks similar to the Rolex sub.

Overall I love the 9937, I just wish it were a bit more original and a bit less of a Rolex copy.

So am I silly? Anyone else feel this way? Anyone had a weird situation with a Rolex owner?

You hit the nail right on the head. I feel EXACTLY the same way. I bought my first Invicta last October and it was my first automatic. I had no intentions of becoming a collector but I've purchased 4 more since then.

Wear your Invicta loud and proud. I have the 3824 which side by side is identical to the Rolex Sub. I could care less if people think it's a knock off. You have a legitamite watch with a Swiss movement that is in many high end watches including Oris, Breitling and more. I think you are too worried about the Rolex snobs, wear your Invicta watch with pride.

If you like the look and feel of the watch it shouldn't matter if it looks like something else. Look at cars these days. With everything being designed in a wind tunnel, they all look alike whether they are a Buick or a Lexus. Granted, watches don't have to be aerodynamic, but a classic style is still classic. not matter whoe makes it.

Auto is right, if you buy a Rolex in all likelihood that will be your only watch for a very long time to come simply due to the cost. Buy many, many Invictas for much less money and in my opinion you are way ahead of the game, you now have variety. Learn to love the cheese!!

Invicta / Rolex

I used to have an Invicta automatic diver - was in a jewelry store that sold Rolex, the salesperson commented on my Rolex and how rare it is to see blue faced ones - I told her it was a Invicta - she asked to see it and was VERY impressed with the watch and of course the see-through caseback. She called one of the other jewellers over to see it too - both were impressed at the quality and heft of the watch. Neither of them mocked it as a knock-off Rolex, merely a high quality watch that was modeled after one of the most popular and copied watches ever made! Now, of course, not all may be so positive, but who cares - you're not trying to pass it off as a Rolex - in my opinion, I think some owners of a Rolex feel a bit disappointed when even they can't tell the difference between their $5000 and a $200 watch.

Doesn't bother me at all.
A knock off in my mind is a watch that says Rolex on the dial, but is a $60 piece from Tijuana.

Invicta is not the first to borrow from the submariner design. It is very popular. My advice is to enjoy your Invicta for what it is.

If you feel uncomfortable wearing a homage, sell it and buy a Rolex.
Personaly, I would feel uncomfortable wearing a Rolex.

In Invicta's defense you have what many in the watch world consider a "legendary" line of watches from Invicta. Also an Invicta is an Invicta not a Rolex. Paying Homage is one thing to knock off another watch and plaster their name all over it is another. Each of these watches have their own thing that makes them unique. Your Pro-diver is a very nice watch with very good quality. That is head and shoulders above many, many other Homages that you will see in the market place. Wear it proudly. BTW perhaps you should learn more about the watch and the company to help ease your anxiety. Invicta is not a little upstart company.

Wear that Invicta proudly. It's a great watch from a great company and it's priced right. You should be proud that you were wise enough to buy a watch that can be compared favorably to watches costing thousands more. When you factor in the price, Rolex ain't all that, but Invicta is all that and a bag of chips!

I bet you did not look at the guy's 'Black Rolex Sub' close enough . . . It said INVICTA on its face

Seriously though . . If you want an Invicta as something people grab your wrist and demand to know what watch it is try the reserve line for your next purchase. Your Rolex guy will drool in your direction.

Pete is 100% correct: a cheap pot-metal "knockoff" of a high-end timepiece should not be confused with the numerous "homage" designs that copy more expensive watches BUT still offer quality movements and construction.

Invicta has successfully broken through their own "glass ceiling" with many of their new designs. The last time Jim and I went watch shopping around the twin cities, sales professionals at two of the highest end stores we visited were more than impressed by my Reserve SAII Meteorite. At one exclusive shop, while we were looking at $25,000+ watches, the manager and his two watch guys were examining my Subaqua Meteorite for 5 minutes.

If you walk into a watch store where a salesperson is too small minded to enjoy quality and value in ANY fine watch you are wearing, they probably know less than YOU do about their product.

If you like it, WEAR IT. And to use my favorite expression, enjoy the pride of ownership "with extreme prejudice!!!"

I'll agree here. In all honesty, I feel Rolex is well overpriced for what you are really receiving. Just wear and enjoy the fact you have atleast 90% of the quality of a Rolex for 8-10% of the price. In all honesty, because I didn't want people to think I was trying to pretend I had a rolex, I went with the 44** series instead. It is bigger, has different hands, MOP dial, different bezel and bracelet. While it is still quite similar to th Sub it is quite different as well. Really though, now that I've seen Invicta's offerings, Rolex doesn't seem like a grail anymore, their designs are old, boring, and overpriced. Just give me a watch that is about as good for 2-400 bucks and I'll be just fine thank you!

I would wear it anytime I wanted to look at it. If is were made in Asia and it said Rolex on it then it would be a true counterfeit, but it does not! Looking at it you have to agree Invicta does not try to hide the Invicta name. You have an Invicta that you really like and because you purchased the Invicta you also have several thousand dollars that you did not spend to buy more watches!:lol:

I have a Rolex and I own about 9 Invicta's. I wear each one of them as I choose and enjoy everyone of them for what they are!:thumbup1:

Enjoy your Invicta and wear it with a big smile on your face.:D

And, welcome to the WTF:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks everyone for writing your point of view, you all make me feel less like a Rolex-wanna-be and more of an Invicta fan. I really am blown away by the quality of this watch. To get a watch comparable with Rolex, TAG, etc. at $200 (I paid $227 for my 9937) is very cool.

I concur with Elliot. although the pro-diver series is the launching pad for current day Invictas, there are many, many models that are in their own right, masterpieces. Check out the reserve line, the SubAqua III's that a few guys around here have, etc. I am very proud of my SubAqua, and am not ashamed of the Invicta logo at all. Doesn't look like any Rolex I've ever seen.
