Excuse me if this has been asked before but, Do you really use your chronograph for anything other then looking cool on your wrist? If you do use it what for?

Sometimes for a giggle when I'm driving down the highway and there are test mile markers I'll use mine to test the acuracy of the speedo on my trusty Subaru or my TR6 (which is off by a couple of miles).

Does anyone make a chronograph that calculates furlongs per fortnight?

= 1.663×10-4 metres per second :w00t:

I use mine. Not overly much and definitely not for testing my speedometer.

There are plenty of times when having a stopwatch on your wrist really comes in handy.

I used to time my breaks. I time my laundry. I might time how long it takes me to get to work or how long some of the stoplights are and even how short those turn arrows are. Sometimes people who don't wear chronographs want me to time something for their benefit. None of these things are earth-shattering, but they add a little interest to life and help keep track of elapsed time.

The fact is that I find it hard to believe that people own chronographs and never use that feature. What's even harder to believe is that considering the premium some people pay for automatic chronographs that they don't time every event that takes place in their lives from eating breakfast to how long it takes to take out the trash.

I use my divers' watches in the same way, except that they are not a precise as the chronograph, but for very many purposes, they do just fine.

Not all my watches are chronographs or divers' watches, so I do make do without those functions from time to time, but I can't for the life of me understand why a person who needs a watch in the first place doesn't find a regular need to track elapsed time in an objective and precise manner.

How about how long you wait to see the doctor?
or When to turn the meat over.
or When did I put the money in the parking meter.
or How long did it take to get from point A to point B.
This discussion has come up before and it always proves there are chrono guys and non-chrono guys.

I use mine extensively when we go to the race track for track day events or to watch racing.

I have two and I chose quartz both for accuracy and reliability. I use them to time my morning power-walks in the hills with my Labrador. We have more than a few routes and I time them to ensure that we get at least a full hour of exercise. I stop the chronograph when the dog needs to attend to, uh, natural functions or just sniff her version of the morning news, then restart when we resume walking. Other than that, I don't use the timing function.

I can tell by the responses what kind of phsyical shape you guys are in!!!!!!! Except for tbarry no one has mentioned running! I use a tenth of a second chrono religiously to time my runs in an attempt to better my time by even a fraction of a second.

I use mine for timing 0-60mph in vehicals
I still remember using my first Casio way back in 1985 to time
the 0-60mph in my 1976 Camaro.
10seconds flat, no matter what the car would go 0-60mph in 10 seconds.

SLOW, even in those days.

My then new 1992 Ponitac Grand Prix with 3.1L V-6 could reach 60mph in 10 seconds.

Had a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 with 4.3L V-6 that would reach 60mph in 8seconds

Most all of the full size trucks I've had will reach 60 in 10 sec.

Had a new 2001 Pontiac Trans Am 0-60 in 5sec.

The Camaro I have now spins tires for 2seconds then reaches 60mph at the 6.5 second mark.

My 2000 Kawasaki ZX9r reaches 60 mph in something like 3.5 seconds - but who's counting?
