I haven't posted here for ages, so it's nice that I do so with good news. I have been hunting for a solid gold Connie for a long time. I like Connies because they often don't have Tritium paint which I don't like when it turns brown. Some do, but not my taste. I also wanted a 56x series movement.

I found one and got it today. It has black onyx type marking and is fantastic condition. I'll put a pic up over the w/e. I've been looking for nearly 2 years, so chuffed to bits.

It is weird being in possession now. I normally wear POs, ATs or Speedies, so to wear a 35mm watch again is absolutely weird.

I opened the back and it has just been serviced, so all it shining bright.

It is also weird not having a quickset date. I had to wind on 26 days - phew!

The only very very small downer is the crown has a large ding on the flat side, where the Omega symbol is.

Thanks all, really kind comments and reassuring about the crown. The watch is solid 18ct, so not sure if I need a gold decagon crown, or if they are all std.

It is really really weird wearing a 35mm watch again. I wore it last night to a reunion of friends meal. Was a good time, although I woke up at 6.00 am in my suit on my couch. Went to bed and woke up a few hours later in night attire, but Connie still on. So at least it has had a hearty introduction to the family.

I have to do some DIY chores over w/e put will put up some pics. I won't get good light as it has been rainy, stormy and dark all today and forecast for tomorrow - Welcome to Northern Europe!

I took the back off and managed to put a scratch on back, but that will polish out. The inside was gleaming and a Cal. 561. Doesn't surprise me as not being quickset date (cal. 564) I was expecting this. I didn't take back off for long for fear of dust.

It's funny because everyone at work knows I acquire watches. The Connie had the best feedback for looks of all my Omegas. I would have not predicted that.

I have found new found admiration for the beautiful watch pictures posted on sites, as most of mine looked like the screen shots from a home made porn movie - poor focus and grainy.

I am happy with the watch apart from two things; the size is seems 33m and I have concerns on the dial. After studying an excellent site most of the dials with the 561 movement seem to have the word Certified.

My instincts tells me the dial is fine as I have seen an identical one before for sale.

Regardless, the gold connie is off the list. I am nearly done, as I have most of the current range that interests me, including a Speedie. I have realised I will never own a grail watch. The Speedie day date has been discontinued, and it may have been a wee bit small anyway. I think there a couple still left, but will surprise you if I come into ownership.
