One of the thrift stores I work in got in a 60'/70's (Maybe 50's era??) wind up Helbros (Attached pic isn't the actual watch but the exact model).
Anyway, the back, except for the cover, is covered in a greenish gunk; around the cover, the lugs, etc.
Whats the safest way to clean this, and what would I use to clean it with?
Maybe I should post before/after pics?

I would suggest a watchmaker to disassemble the watch..setting aside the case and caliber, proceed to use an ultrasonic cleaner with very mild parts cleaner chemical and dip the case and case back into the machine.

That should gently remove the green grim.
