Hi Everyone,

I would just like to share with you all, especially the Speedmaster fans amongst us, the Certificate of Authenticity I got with my LE Gemini IV 40th Anniversary First Space Walk Speedmaster (deep breath.)

I'll let the pictures tell the story. However, I will quote the words within the certificate that I find quite uplifting in their nostalgic optimism:

"This is Gemini Control, Houston. Gus Grissom has just established contact with the spacecraft. McDivitt confirmed that White did leave the spacecraft".
These words issued from the Mission Commentary Transcript describe the beginning of the first space walk of an American astronaut, Edward H. White.
Not only did the historic press photos taken during Edward H. White's space walk capture the world's imagination, but they also astounded everyone at Omega Headquarters, when they realised he was wearing one of the brand's Speedmaster chronographs which kept perfect time throughout the 36 minute duration of this momentous event in history.
Having requested confirmation from NASA that White was indeed wearing a Speedmaster, Omega discovered one year later that it's chronograph had in fact been flight-qualified for all manned space missions by NASA on 1 March 1965. It was a choice that was easily made, since it was the only chronogaph that withstood the extreme conditions imposed by NASA's tests. Later the same month, the Omega Speedmaster was officially worn for the first time on the Gemini 3 mission. Though greeted with considerable excitement at the brand's headquarters in Bienne, Switzerland, this sensational news led to the most minor of changes to the watch: the addition of one word on the dial, turning the humble Omega Speedmaster into the legendary Omega Speedmaster Professional.
Your timepiece, which has been part of the NASA standad equipment for the last 40 years, is an historic and nostalgic witness to this human achievement.

Thanks for the feedback guys,

I thought that the text within the certificate would be appreciated here.

It's just one more reminder of why the Speedy Pro is such a significant and special timepiece in all it's variations.

That certificate adds a super cool element to an already awesome watch. If you want to read the inside story of that first spacewalk it's outlined in frightening detail in Gene Cernan's book "Last Man on the Moon."

HEY ZIN,

I was at an affair that had Richard Petty's car there. I was checking it out and managed to pull off a piece of tire and steering wheel foam off it. I was going to frame it nicely with a photo and all, but it's in my collecting box along with actual pieces of coal that were salvaged from the Titanic. They were selling it at the Titanic exhibit a couple of years ago. Amazing stuff. I got to actually touch parts of the hull.

And didn't pull anything off it :lol::lol:

Be well now :001_smile:
