It said radio or phone. And all you're doing is using your eye/ear/hand coordination to push the watch button at the right moment.

Regarding your Bulova watch, I just picked 1 up, batteries changed and now working. Single button version; press buttons a few times to set date and time and the day. In the section you mention, pressing button once shows first display: shows hours: mins secs
pressing button twice shows Month date and day. Maybe you have an LED not working. Good luck, it does seem easy to set.
