I was at the mall this evening, and stopped by the store that has Breitlings displayed through their windows. While there I noticed several placards in their display cabinets next to the watches warning about buying a Breitling online, that they had no warranty, were gray-market, etc.

Is this for real? Are there no true authorized dealers for Breitling online, or was this mall AD just trying to sell watches?

By the letter, that's accurate. AD's are not allowed by the manufactures to sell watches online, and those you do find online are almost always gray market watches that will not have a mfr's warranty. They may & usually do come with a warranty from the seller, but Breitling will not honor the warranty. This is pretty common in the upper end watches.

Now a few AD's advertise online, but they 1) won't sell online (you'll have to call or email them to order) and 2) they won't disclose a price online (you'll have to call or email). This technically is keeping inline with their agreement not to sell online & really is just an advertising tool to reach larger amounts of people. But, there are not many that do this.

So short answer is it's true, with a very few exceptions.
