If you're serious about maintaining the 1000 m water resistance I would recommend sending it back to the manufacture. This is more expensive than going local, but most local jewelers won't have the ability to test the water resistance to that depth. Deep Blue has excellent customer service and I would imagine you'd have your watch back within a week. I had an issue, they were able to repair it, and get the watch back to me within a week for no charge except $15 for return shipping and handling.
