The new year is here and Baselworld will be held from April 3-10! I'm hoping that Rolex will have something EXTRA special for their 100 year anniversary!

What could it be? A couple thoughts.....

1. Redesigned Sub - similar to the new GMT, with the updated clasp and ceramic bezel, but without the polished center links. :001_wub:
2. Refreshed Explorer II - again, similar treatment to the new GMT. :thumbup1:
3. New Daytona - add a date window..... finally! :001_tt1:

We tend to focus on the sports lineup here, but what if Rolex did something really special? Bare with me here as some might think my speculation to be treason. I'm thinking that nothing would stand out more than an update of the coveted Datejust and Day/Date. :scared: Nothing could be a more significant announcement than for Rolex to redesign the most recognized and copied watch design in the world. How about a DJ and President for the "next 100 years"? I'm thinking that most bits will be the same as it is heretical to mess too much with tradition and heritage. It must look similar. I'd think they would leave the general dial layout alone but they could increase the case size to 40mm (like the Milgauss?). Additionally, they could also add another bracelet design to compliment the jubilee and oyster.

There is my $.02. What say you?

Not to be boring, but I'll be honest in that I haven't the foggiest idea what they could do. :confused1:

Sure...a redesigned Sub seems a strong possibility. But I just don't thing that ceramic bezel fits with the Submariner. Not that I don't like it...I do, and think it's good for the GMT. But the Sub? Ok, MAYBE the Sub. But definitely not the Sea-Dweller. :scared:

Hmm....maybe they'll do somethng with the Sea-Dweller?

My AD told me that Rolex have been even more Secret Squirrell than usual about Basel '08, maybe an indication of something REALLY special? All the new models for '07 were in a nice brochure which my AD sent out to me, no such publication this year it seems!
My only personal hope ( and i accept i may be courting disaster here!) is that a Sub update doesn't just mean super-case, ceramic bezel and maxi-dial.
I would love a Sub update, and i will probably buy a new one whatever, but i hope maybe they come up with something none of us were expecting!

I've wanted to buy a Datejust for years, but just can't due to the 36mm case. My wrist is just over 7 3/4" and smaller watches (less than 40mm)
don't look right. I figure if they don't come out with one in the next couple of years my money will go towards the Omega Aqua Terra 42mm.

Guys - since the Explorer II has been mentioned as one of the sport models that hasn't been updated in a while, do you think there's a chance that Rolex could go "retro" like the Milgaus and produce an orange hand Explorer II?

Based purely on process of elimination and on the models they've updated, the Sub, Sea-Dweller, and/or Explorer I/II seem the likely choices in the sport lines to get a refreshed version debut in Basel. Or Rolex could surprise us with a completely new watch in 2008 like the YM II. :confused1:

What I'd like to see is a new Sub with ceramic bezel (but with a lume dot, unlike the GMT) and AR coating on the cyclops, that's always been my bugbear with the cyclops!
Also, it would be really cool if they made it a "homeage" piece to the retro sub and gave it the red script on the dial just like John's new baby!
Of course the maxi dial, new bracelet and clasp etc would also be a must.

That would be my dream sports watch and a real keeper!

I very much like the idea of the retro sub!
