A Co-Axial Seamaster Chronometer Limited Edition

Seamaster XXIX Limited Edition

The OMEGA Seamaster XXIX Limited Edition promises to be among the most desired of all the exclusive timepieces on offer at the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing 2008.

This remarkable watch will only be available in Beijing and only during the Olympic Games. The initial limited release of 88 numbered Seamaster XXIX watches will take place on the 8th of August 2008 – 08/08/2008 – the day of the Opening Ceremony. Only 88 of these unique Seamasters will be sold each day between the 8th and 24th of August.

The Seamaster XXIX has been inspired by its ancestor, the Seamaster XVI, which was specially produced to honour the Games of the XVI Olympiad in Melbourne in 1956 and to celebrate the 25th anniversary of OMEGA’s role as Official Timekeeper in 1957.

The Seamaster XVI possessed all the features which had so quickly established the Seamaster’s worldwide reputation: unbreakable hesalite glass; protection against water, dust, temperature variations and atmospheric pressure; a double system of protection against shock; and of course, the legendary OMEGA calibre which gave the Seamaster its unparalleled precision. Reflecting the tastes of the time, its case measured a discreet 34 mm.

The Seamaster XVI also had another distinction: its caseback was stamped with the Olympic Cross of Merit, awarded to OMEGA during the 1952 Games in Helsinki "for outstanding service to the world of sports." While the new Seamaster XXIX was inspired by the Seamaster XVI, it blends some distinctive design enhancements with OMEGA’s revolutionary Co-Axial technology.

The hour markers and hands along with the vintage OMEGA logo and name applied on the polished ivory dial are made of 18-Ct yellow gold, as are the applied Roman numerals “XXIX” symbolizing the Games of the XXIX Olympiad – the 29th Summer Olympics – in Beijing. The Seamaster XXIX’s 37 mm polished 18-Ct yellow gold case is delivered on a black caiman leather strap with an 18-Ct yellow gold buckle. It has a box-form scratch-resistant sapphire
crystal with anti-reflective treatment and is water-resistant to a depth of 100 metres.

At the heart of the Seamaster XXIX Limited Edition is the OMEGA Co-Axial calibre 2403, a chronometer with OMEGA’s 21st century Co-Axial technology. The caseback features the official Beijing Olympic logo with the limited series number (0/88) and the watch’s date of issue. The Seamaster XXIX is presented in a
personalized matte black wooden gift box.

Thanks in respect of the above to Michael Sandler and TZ

This is just initial information pals. I'll try to get more tomorrow from Omega. The Seamaster seems a nice dress watch though a little small. Being an Olympics release, it probably was destined for the far eastern market which has a preference for smaller sizes.

The Speedy? Well I need to see proper pictures of it first ;)

Be well pals

Well here's my 2 cents..

The chronos are definitely a marvel of engineering, but talk about busy. And you think the BBB"s are busy?!  Neat, but not for me... I'd have to see it in person, but that center subdial looks extremely difficult to read under the main hands. Not to mention the blending of the subdials. I just think by the time you were to determine what the elapsed time actually is you'd have to start all over again as more time would have elapsed!!

The Seamaster on the other hand is very nice....  The dial, lugs, case.. All of it - perfect.... :thumbup1: However, I don't like the Beijing stuff on it. Make it a regular production or loose the Beijing stuff and I'd really like it... But I'll give it 2 thumbs up for it's ascetic appeal.. (Though as you can guess, I'd also wish it was 40mm... )

Scott, the center sub is the day of the week. You would have 24 hours to figure out what it says :001_rolleyes::lol:

But you are right, it is awfuly busy. And I agree with the Seamaster, it needs to lose the Olympic theme, as the Olympics are not relavent any more.

Speedmaster GMT HB-SIA

OMEGA SPEEDMASTER GMT SOLAR IMPULSE

The OMEGA Speedmaster GMT "Solar Impulse" was inspired by and created in honour of the Solar Impulse project whose ambition is to circumnavigate the globe in an airplane powered only by the sun.

The Solar Impulse prototype, which is referred to by its registration number, HB-SIA (Hotel Bravo Solar Impulse Alpha), aims to validate the plane’s innovative construction technologies and procedures. If the results are conclusive, it could make a solar-powered 36-hour flight - the equivalent of a complete day-night-day cycle - in 2009.

Recognising the planet’s urgent need to develop safe, sustainable energy sources, OMEGA is actively participating in the project as one of its Main Partners, contributing engineering technology and capital. The Speedmaster GMT “Solar Impulse” salutes the enthusiastic pioneering spirit driving the project.

The watch combines elegant but sporty design with cutting-edge technology. Its dramatic, Speedmaster-influenced dial is made of black carbon fibre similar to the HB-SIA’s composite covering. The slightly-recessed black chronograph and small seconds counters creatively contribute to the watch’s outstanding legibility. Another detail on the timepiece’s unique dial is the discreet “HB-SIA” appearing in ochre on the dial at 12 o’clock.

Again, my thanks to Michael Sandler and TZ

More to come pals

Boy do I love that seamaster:drool: It would be nice if they brought a similar design like a stainless version back for regular production. I think that sometimes all these limited editions get a little bit overdone.

As far as the 5 dial speedy...:confused1::001_unsure: I think there is a bit to much going on. Deffinatly a cool idea from a horological point of view. If someone wants to buy me one I would definitely wear it, but I don't think I'd buy one myself.

The solar impulse is something that I like quite a bit. The carbon fiber dial give is a more modern look to the classic speedy look.

Nice, Thanks for that Zin!

I personally don' fancy any of these..but then again, it's Omega's big year with the Olympics around the corner, so it would be naive to think they wouldn't milk the most out of it.

Really appreciate the press release pic of the new Legend. My signature speaks for itself but there's something about that carbon fiber dial which makes it just..too busy..

And I agree with Scott on the 5 rings..way too much for me.

Hopefully there's more to come, sans the 5 rings.

You're welcome pal. There'll be more to come when the Press Room puts out its' usual issues Larry. Better graphics too I imagine.

I'm waiting to see if there's any action on the AT chronometer or GMTs.

Broadly speaking the issues will be grouped into the four main lines plus special one-offs like Olympic models so there definitely will be more to come.

Have a good evening pal

To be honest I really don't like all the branding of the olympics on these Omega watches. I undersatnd Omega can be a sponsor but they really go over the top, in my honest opinion, to celebrate this. For example, the semaster limited edition is beautiful but I don't like the beijing logo. Why can't Omega release the watch as planned and perhaps have no Olympic annotation on it. Perhaps some literature with the watch a nice case, etc. but not the actual timepice. Personally, that ditracts from the watch itself.

Also, it just seems that they pick almost every watch in their line up and do cosmetic surgery on it. The PO, Speed, and others are here and there and everywhere with different dials.

couldn't agree more, 1 or mo models are ok, but all of this?
