Hey everyone,

B&V had a great idea of making a sticky for the Basel releases so all the pictures & such can be in one place..

So, if you've got pictures or info of the Submariner, this is the place for them!

I've downloaded some pics off the Rolex.com site & will post them later, as well as copy' some of the ones already posted. I'll do that later this afternoon, unless someone does it first..

So, post your pictures, specs & comments on the new Submariners here!!! :thumbup1:

Now those pictures don't look as much 'light blue'. As many have said, I guess I'll just have to wait to see one in person. Blue is such a hard color to accurately capture in a photo.. While I still like the black best, the blue's in these pictures don't look too bad...

If this is a photo of the new offerings, then yes, I agree with the others that this blue hue is much more like the older one we have seen. I earlier had a completely different impression. I like the above much better. Guess I'll have to take a trip to the dealer when they get them in.

Ok. Call me crazy. What is the difference between this one and the old one? What am I missing?
Changes are:
maxi dial & hands
Ceramic bezel
new GLIDELOCK bracelet clasp (Same as the new Deep Sea with micro adjusting)
Parachrom hairspring

Also, assumed changes, but not confirmed (that I've seen) are:
solid center bracelet links
super case

I tend to lean towards the argument that the Blue isn't really the same, but that's my opinion. The blue dial and bezel of the current 16613 really appeal to me, and I'll have to see the new color scheme in TT before I make the final call.
If it's close, I may be inclined to go with the current TT 16613, though it won't benefit from the new technology, which will be a shame.....

Baselworld 2008 - new submariner

(All photos taken by me at Baselworld 2008)

At Baselworld 2008 Rolex introduced a new Rolex Submariner.

This model is now officially "available" although it may be a couple more months yet before they start to hit AD's (Authorised Rolex Dealers) for purchase by the general public.

The trend of Rolex of late has been to introduce models as follows:

Year 1 - all gold
Year 2 - two tone
Year 3 - stainless steel

This is what happened with the GMT Master II in the "supercase" format with the ceramic bezel.

With Rolex, nothing is guaranteed however the best indicator of future performance is usually past performance.

Thus we can guess that Rolex will introduce the two tone Submariner at Baselworld 2009 and the all stainless steel version at Baselworld 2010.

The new model has a new case with broader shoulders than the current submariners and has the same material bezel (ceramic) as the now current GMT Master II.

At the moment, the new model replaces the gold Submariner in the catalogue, but the existing two tone and stainless steel models are still available.

It looks like this in white gold and will have a UK retail price circa £15,500:

(Remember UK prices have 17.5% sales tax built into them - we don't add the sales tax after like in the USA)

And this in yellow gold and will have a UK retail price circa £13,900:

So far, only blue dial and bezel combinations have been seen on the new Submariner in white gold, however, the yellow gold version also has a black dial and black bezel option. As far as I know the dial is the same size as the current Submariner line, but the bracelet is a variation of the Deepsea bracelet.

All the best,

Harry
