I've been wearing my new favorite watch, my M24, on a daily basis for the past two weeks. Last night I happened to notice that there's a round 2" bald patch on my left wrist. As someone well into my hair loss years, my first thought was, "Dang! On my arms, too?" But then I noticed that the bald area has a rough, just-cut hair feel to it, and instead of being totally bald it is covered with shortened hairs, as if attacked by a tiny barber with really poor technique.

Then today I realized the culprit: the back and sides of my M24 must be doing the trimming. When I first got the watch, I noticed that the edges of the case were fairly sharp (for a watch), and the caseback has rather sharp machining grooves. They must be chopping off hairs as the watch moves on my wrist. To test the theory, I put the watch on my right wrist and rubbed it around a bit. Sure enough, when I pulled it off, a few pieces of fresh-cut hair dropped onto the tabletop.

Anyone else having this problem? Given how tough tungsten is, it seems unlikely that the sharp edges will soften through wear alone, at least not in the next decade. I suppose I could put the watch on a NATO strap to put something between the cutting blades and my wrist, but I like the tungsten bracelet. Maybe a see-through caseback is the answer...

Hey,

My M24 is not shaving my wrist like you describe, but I agree the case does have some sharp edges.

I have a M27 on pre-order, and if Chris is reading this too, the underside edges of that series of tungstens cases sure could be a little bit less sharp.

Cheers,

CT

...either that, or a modification to the manual, advising owners to wax wrists before wearing :T

You could try the sapphire caseback perhaps? It's nice and smooth. I think the engravings could be smoother. We could always turn it down a bit for you. I am sure the tungsten case is not sharp enough to cut anything. My guess is the caseback engravings.

I tried testing the case sharpness last night, and found that the outer edges of the lugs will easily cut paper, string, and nylon cord. The circular machining grooves on the case bottom meet the pushed outer edge of the lug to create a fairly sharp serrated edge. Maybe you could market it as a survival watch? :)

That said, I think you're right about the case back engravings being the primary problem. Guess I'll contact service about getting them turned down a bit. Can you also bevel the outer lug edges, or is that too much?

My M24 is in pretty heavy rotation these days and I haven't had this problem. I have the tungsten not the steel though. I also wear it a dash on the loose side, just enough so that I can spin it to the inside if I want. basically one notch away from being tight.
