2186s go for very high prices which I could not afford to pay. So several years ago I bought a 2186 for a low price as it had a cracked crystal, badly worn band and a graunched case where some philistine had put it in a vise. . I kept my eyes open for new crystals (no luck) but I managed to purchase a case in very good condition. My joy was short lived however when I found that the outside dimensions of the cases were the same but the hole cutout for the crystal in the 2186 case is about a millimeter smaller each way. Also the lug spacing is slightly smaller. The case I had purchased is a 2182 3316. I started to ponder whether it was worthwhile to get the case restored. However a couple of weeks ago I could hardly believe my eyes when I found someone in Eastern Canada auctioning a NOS 3412 case and band (correct for 2186). Well,

I won the auction, the only problem being that the the seller would not ship to New Zealand. I have had to get it shipped to a relative in Canada so it will be some time before I have it in my hand. Photos in order 1: My 2186, 2: showing case damage, 3: the 3316 case, 4: A 3316 Accutron, 5: The NOS case (Ebay photo)

That is quite the swap! Congrats on finding the right case. I’ve been in your shoes and it’s nice to see patience pay off!
