Default Water resistance of Bulova automatic “Accutron “

I have 2 mid 1990’s Bulova Accutron automatics; one says Accutron on face and 50m on face and just water resistant on back, the other is identical in case design but says Bulova on face and Accutron on the back with only water resistant on the back just like the other. The winding stems are push type and identical, both have the date at the 6:00 positions, they have sapphire crystals and the backs have clear inserts showing the rotors and movements which appear identical,so my question is: are the both rated 50m water resistant like the one says? The Bulova one says Accutron on the back and the Accutron one does not. Weird isn’t it? Sorry no photos, camera messed up. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Without a service and certification I wouldn't trust either one not to emit gurgling sounds when submerged....

I'm not sure i would trust any watch over 10 yrs old to maintain its water resistance without being serviced / gaskets replaced first.

Oh I don’t intend to test them, just curious if they had the same rating

Maybe? But without Bulova actually putting it on the watch, how you gonna know?

in any event, if it says 50m on the dial, that means you might be able to splash water on it while washing your hands but ensure that you dry it off immediately....

My opinion of most modern watches is that they are fine for a splash of water from rain or hand washing. A swim with one is a roll of the dice. Lots of cheap manufacturing and worn out gaskets can make you an unhappy camper.

What I was wondering was whether.the 2 watches were originally 50m water resistant since they appear to have identical cases and backs even tho one did not have the 50m on the face- they both have identical backs and both only say water resistant.

Its possible they are both 50m water resistant but it is more than just the case that protects. You need protection around the stem also. If they are identical in all areas then they both likely have the same water resistance rating and for whatever marketing reason, it was left off one of the watches. Maybe someone else here has a bit more knowledge on waterproofing a watch.

Thanks, I’ll get them serviced and gaskets replaced when the quarantine eases some more
