    Default W-4 cell?

The watch on my bench today is a 14kt M6 218D. It has the early case back stamp that says to use a cell marked W-4. I still haven't run into one of these W-4 marked cells. Does anyone have one?

Something tells me this one on Amazon.com isn't the correct "W-4" battery....

I also saw a comment on the My Bulova forum suggesting an Accu-cell# 1 works

Oh, sorry I wasn't clear, there's no problem finding a correct modern battery for this watch (344), I just wonder if anyone has a 1966-era W-4 because I haven't seen one.

Have a look at this older thread on the W4 battery. Oddly, i couldn't find an on-line image for an Accutron W4 battery but i did see a few watches with that same marking inside the case back.

That thread was me too, and I think I was wrong: according to the evidence of these case backs, the battery we're looking for is marked W-4 and has a yellow seal. That one had neither feature. It's elusive!

Maybe someone like 'Samantha' would remember those batteries?

The best I can do is a pic from the "Accutron Technical Information 218 Series" booklet. I don't think I have ever seen one, though over the years have had plenty of watches come in with their old mercury cell still installed. Usually 343's or 186's in 218's. Might be an interesting thing to do to look up the patent number.
