I just got an Amscope MD500 and am quite happy with it. It gives a smaller field of view than my 10x or 20x eyepieces, more like a 40x. I would have preferred it match, but it's ok. Maybe they did that because cameras are rectangles and a microscope field of view is round.
It works out of the box with all the V4L2 programs (the Linux video/camera standard). It does live video (a little slow) and will take 2592x1944 still images.
Here's a photo from the new camera. This is one of my rewinds. The main reflection of the microscope's light is off the conformal coating, but you can see through and see the reflection off the individual wires too. (Hope the forum doesn't scale it down too much)
