    Really? I'm quite new to this, but I would think that keeping the watch running would hurt the lubrication. There is only so in the watch and the less it runs- to a point- the longer it can go before a relube.

    I truly don't know so I'm listening. I'm thinking a winder is purely for convenience and nothing more.

    Nowadays it is mostly convenience. A watch doesn't generate enough heat to affect the viscosity of the lubricants so there's no difference in lifespan. I wind my watches that aren't on the winder (or are manual) every couple months anyway. It can't hurt, and it may help keep the oils from creeping out of place since jewels are shaped to funnel the oils to where they're needed.

    My Orients are the only ones that are always in winders, since they cannot be hand wound.
