Thanks for the reply, would you happen to know what adjustments or enhancements Rolex made to these movements in the early 70's. It is very hard to authenticate these movements. Is there a good site to see the movements as they may have progressed during this time period.

    Rolexness reviews

I started collecting and doing my own servicing on the MC models around very early 2000 and never looked back.

The first Monte Carlo series was a two register reference #7031-7032 with a 7734 caliber was produced only for four years(1970-1974).
The other nick name for this watch is the home plate dialed Monte Carlo. The makers resembles baseball diamond plates.

The popularity of the two register Tudor is due to the strong lineage to the Rolex chronograph in general. The Daytona and Tudor have a similar Valjoux caliber..the Tudor is minus a register and a micro Stella balance set up. But the 234 and 727 calibers share 85% of common parts and movement size. In fact the early 23 Valjoux calibers powered Rolex two register Chronographs from the 1940-1950.
The second series reference # 7159, 7169, and 7149 was the two register 234 Valjoux powered Tudor chronograph
    (1974-1978).

Thanks for the reply, nice photos, One question on the movements used. Did rolex enhance these movement in house? Obviously the put the brand name (Tudor) on the movement, what else might they have done. As far as putting the name Tudor on the movement I have noticed 2 types, a curved Tudor and a straight Tudor. Are both of these correct. I have A Home Plate plus a couple of newer Daytonas, but am leaning more towards these vintage watches because the styling is so cool.

    thanks, hooper

Does anyone have a photo of the early 7031-7032 movement?

Default Some answers to your questions

The 234 and 7734 caliber housed in the Tudor Monte Carlo were reworked by adding Tudor and Swiss nomenclature to the movement bridges. In regards to the balance components such as the balance and hairspring, they are the common curb regulator type with a hairspring realignment done by Rolex to correct balance phase.

Rolex did micro polish the movement jewels to a fine smooth surface. This gave the old style non Micro Stella 234 and 7734 caliber a more accurate amplitude and running rate then just being an off the shelf caliber.
