Default Question on the Luminova Subs.

I was surfing around Delgado's website doubleredseadweller.com and read about the Luminova red sub. Apparently Rolex will replace an old red dial with a newer one. some say Swiss or T<25 on the bottom of the dial. Now my question, wouldn't that basically kill alot of value off you're watch? Thanks for the help!

Default Good question about the service red 1680 dial...

In my opinion we have two schools of thought on this issue.

The purest collector who wants all his watches with original period correct parts.

The second faction are the collectors who will collect original vintage watches with service parts added as long as they are authentic.

I remember when these replacement service red dials hit the vintage community, they were all the rage and a new phenomenon. Rolex USA would have no part in this service 1680 dial and Rolex service centers in Europe were the only place to get one.

I believe that nowadays collectors are commanding the original 1680 red as more valuable because the replacement red dial 1680 lost some of it's wow factor when the dust settled.

I hope this perspective helps you a little in understanding the value of the service 1680 dial..Arthur

I would want an original. The luminova dials for vintage just do not look right to me. I like originality. JMHO =) maverick

Default maverick I agree the full value of the watch would be in a correct period..

    1680 Red dial....

You know what gets me nuts? Seeing a closed 6 red dial in a 1680 with Sub
33xxxx serial case. So I tend to agree, a red Sub service dial will take away from the full value in my opinion.

This topic reminds me of the service light blue Bakelite insert debate of last year.
Will a service Bakelite be as desirable as an original Bakelite? Not for me..

Well, we all know nothing is as good as original. It is one of the things that makes this hobby/obsession/business so interesting. =)maverick
