Default Oris Divers Date vs. Invicta Reserve Pro-Diver

Hi everyone! I'm currently looking at expanding my small collection of dive watches to brands other than Invicta (which I love, say what you will) and I admire Oris' diver designs. I would love to have a Coste LE Diver but the reality is I can only afford something in the Divers Date price range, preferably an SS blue dial w/ bracelet. However, I still want to make sure I'm getting the most watch for my money, and the only comparison I will have is the Invicta Reserve Pro-Diver. The Invicta is also all Swiss made and has the same Sellita movement but it is COSC certified and WR to 500m. It is also available at a lower price so it already has a leg up on the Oris. So, now that I've stirred the pot, how does the ODD compare to the IRPD? I'd prefer to hear from those who have both, and please be specific (ie "better fit and finish" doesn't say a whole lot). TIA.

Hi Hardline, welcome to the ORIS forum

I really don't know where to start here

I want to say nice things about the cheese watches but i cant find the words ........... its not the price points, or even that they are sold on TV ....... the thing that bothers me about Invicta is that they have never had an idea of their own and almost every Invicta is just a cheap knock off of another watch that another company spent money to design and market just to have Chairman Lalo copy them.
What does a pro-diver look like??? Hmmmmm the words Rolex Sub come to my little old head when i look at it

Why would you spend the extra few bills for the ORIS over the Invicta? Style for one .... the ORIS diver designs are one of a kind. Bracelet and rubber strap are both superior to the Invicta ...... the rubber strap on the ORIS is superior to just about any rubber strap out there IMHO, and i have a few from Sekio to Panerai. The wave dial, looks better than the plain black one on the PD. And i just have to say fit and finish ........... and it does mean a lot. The tighter tolerances of the ORIS show better workmanship throughout the watch. If you want a watch that looks like a Rolex, buy a Rolex .... if you want a watch with a unique style of its own buy an ORIS.

I know i sound like im slamming Invicta here but im really not, i do happen to have a couple of yellow boxes in my pile, im just trying to stick up for my brand ORIS here

I may be late on this Mr.ENGPHOTO.but have you seen a Reserve Pro Diver in person?
I have compared Oris and Invicta and your comments seems don't seem fair to me.

"never had an idea of their own"
Well, the Lupah and Sapphire Ghost have a patent design.
The Subaqua Noma's seem pretty unique to me as well as the Reserve Speedway's.

"Bracelet and rubber strap are both superior to the Invicta"
The Invicta Reserve Bracelets are top notch, have you seen them?they don't even rattle.

The Reserve Pro Diver actually is quite different from the Sub.
The case design is bigger with curved lugs to hug the wrist better.
The dial and hands are different.
    The bracelet is much nicer
The caseback is different and it has an exhibition caseback. etc....
From my experience, most watches have similar characteristics.

    Just my 2c,
    Thank you,thankyouverymuch!!!

Hey Triton, welcome to the ORIS forum

Yes, i could have been a little to hard on Chairman Lalo ......... i forgot about the Lupah

My wifes daily watch was an Invicta till the Miyota movement gave it up and quit

I think i have seen and handled and put on my wrist just about every Invicta made actually. One of my good friends in the NAWCC which i belong collects Invicta ......... over 100 pieces at this point

He too has an ORIS divers that he picked up a few months ago now, i was really just passing on what his feelings were about both watches as he has both in his collection now and we had just talked about how he likes the ORIS last Thursday night at our weekly bocce league.

And for the ORIS bracelets and rubber stap being better .......... IMHO the ORIS rubber strap is better than any i have come across ... ever ..... i like it better than the Hublot Big Bang strap, Better than and new and old Panerai rubber straps which i own. Better than the Seiko rubber divers strap which i have more than a few of. Its just a great piece of rubber

I don't think he can go wrong with either watch purchase, but he did ask for differences and did not want the fit and finish answer so i tried my best to compare them the best i knew how.

Here's my take. Invicta's Reserve line is quite nicely made. Is an Oris better? Maybe by a hair. I give Oris the edge based on it's reputation for quality. Invicta is still very suspect.
That said, I own an Invicta (or two) but no longer own an Oris. So I guess I voted with my wallet. I enjoy gambling...

ias a former invicta collector i will say that Oris is better.

invicta makes nice $250 watches, their mediocre quality control and poor costumer service makes invicta not comparable to oris.

Oris i known for good quality swiss timepieces at affordable prices and invicta i known for cheap Rolex homages.
Invicta also has copied Oris with the scooby.

    IMO

I had an Oris Big Crown pointer date. It was nice, didn't really float my boat though. I look at the brand from time to time but nothing sings to me - yet.
I did seriously toy with the idea of a Sinatra about a year ago.

I don't think Oris and Invicta are in the same market category watchwise. Whether you choose Oris over Invicta depends on what aspects of choosing a new watch is most important to you. Oris is a Swiss maker and manufactures only mechanical watches. I like the TT1 diver and for the money it is a good value. Invicta is more in the less expensive, often quartz, category. They have been making some good efforts lately in design. I own one of their nondiver models (was a gift) and it has an automatic movement (I believe it's japanese) and it has been keeping time fine now for a couple of years. Even so, my personal preference would be to add another Oris, in part because I am fond of their designs but in part because they are made with higher standards. This is my take, anyway. Best of luck.
