Default Murphy must have taken a day off.

The Watch Gods gave me some decent light and I was finally able to crack the caseback off this watch so I had to take advantage of the coincidence to snap a few pics.

Judging by the case & movement serial numbers it looks like this is from @ 1973:

Can you help me fix my watch?..Where does this: go inside this?: I guess that's what I get for buying it on eBay!!!

Thanks guys! I found an applet that gives the year of manufacture for the case and for the movement, then estimates when the watch was finished assembly and sold:

    DateYourIWC applet

According to this, it's probably from 1976 if you assume that IWC put them together a short while after both the case & movement were made separately.

Beautiful! I definitely want to put one of this movement series in my collection one of these days. Congratulations... I'll probably be looking for an earlier version...

You'll want to track down an 853 or earlier version then.
