Default First Panerai in my wishlist...

    Hello folks...

Sorry to tell, but I never was attracted by Panerai, until today, that I saw the pics of Gene's PAM 24... (I guess it's a PAM 24 )

I really love it, so It's officially in my wishlist, and hopefully will be part of the family in this year; maybe a Rolex will have to go out of the list, but let's see what the year has to tell

Any thoughts? is it better the PAM 25? Are there options to buy the PAM 24 with leather? I just saw it with rubber...

    Thanks

The Panerai 24 is a submersible (read dive watch), so it comes on rubber. Rubber is much more practical than leather for a dive watch. However, Panerais are all about straps and you are completely free to buy either a Panerai OEM leather or gator strap or buy a custom strap from one of the many strap makers who specialize in Panerai straps. Rob Montana has just joined the WTF vendors and is world famous for his beautiful Panerai straps. Panerais are made to be very easy for a do-it-yourself strap change. It's very easy, really.

If you are like me and really don't plan to use your submersible for diving a gator looks great and you can save your rubber for those extremely hot days in summer or when visiting the Caribbean. The PAM 24 is a fantastic piece but I believe it can only be had on the secondary market these days, but there are other submersibles in different case sizes.

Here is my PAM 285 submersible on rubber...

    and on blue gator...

    Cheers,
    Rob

WOW, I really love your PAM 285 Rob, but it's a 47mm right? too big for me... I can't go over 44mm or will be like using a clock in my wrist

I found a lot of PAM 24s online, brand new; as there are not ADs in Bolivia, therefore I was thinking in gray market... or not??? maybe I have to go to Chile and buy one in an AD there?

What you think? Any other recommendations for a 44mm option?

I really love the diver style, not the classic Panerai look, somehow a more "modern" look...

What's the difference between the PAM 24, and the PAM 24 OOR? I found that the OOR has the old case, and old style strap change, is this better or worse?

    Any other difference? Anyone know?

The 24 oor just means that the number sequence is Out Of Range from the regular production no. Meaning that they had surplus parts so they made an oor so it will look more collectable but it's really not .

    Good choice, pal.
Panerai is one of the greatest brands.
I like their design..a bit unusual, but unique
And the rubber fits great to them.
There are also very little models with bracelet...
    Better something cheaper,but genuine,than a replica

Default Pam 284 has a cousin called pam 194

PAM 285 is the cousin of PAM 197. If you look closely you will see that they are almost identical. Don't ever sell your PAM 285, because you will have a very hard time finding another one. This particular watch, both 285 and 194 are pure tool watches and there are not that many watches out there that can go to a depth of 2500m. There are many collectors who are missing these two from their collections. Also wear it very carefully. you don't want to scratch a timepiece as nice as this one. Good luck and may you have many happy times with it.
