    Question Pam00298

To be really honest, I was never a Panerai fan. I was more of a Swiss watch fan who own an GMT IIc, Vintage Tudor & Omega SMP.

However, the only Panerai -- PAM00298 seems to have caught my attention recently.

I have a couple of questions as follow:
    1. How reliable are Panerais? I'm more concerned on the durability of the movement as I plan to wear this watch daily.
    2. What movement does this model use?
    3. Any idea about the retail price of this watch? Paneristi does not have the price list, probably because this is a new model.

    Cheers.

First of all, Panerai IS a Swiss watch, but the company is based in Italy..

    As for your questions:

    1. How reliable are Panerais? I'm more concerned on the durability of the movement as I plan to wear this watch daily.

There have been some issues with the in-house calibres (Cal. 200X), especially with the manually wound 8 Day GMT (movt. stopping after 3 days and not 8 days+ on a full wind). However, if you leave the (otherwise mostly excellent in-house Cal's aside), Panerai mostly uses ETA modified movts. Now those are VERY reliable and proven by time and no nonsense, perfectly capable for everyday wear. If you make sure that a Panerai watch is serviced ~ every 5th. year, it can "outlive" you.

    2. What movement does this model use?

It uses the Panerai Cal. OP III which is based on the real workhorse ETA Valjoux Cal. 7750-P1 movt.

    3. Any idea about the retail price of this watch? Paneristi does not have the price list, probably because this is a new model.

Current retail price is Euro 4,700 (use an online exchange rate conversion site to find the equivalent US figure).

    Best regards,

Current retail price in US is $7100. Should be available at dealers in August 09.

Bo answered all your other questions!
