When you've checked it to see what the reserve is is that after you take it off after wearing it all day or after hand winding the crown all the way until you hear the 'clutch' slip & know it's 100% wound? If it's after wearing it all day it's possible the spring wasn't actually 100% wound to start, which would of course lead to a lower reserve.

I know that none automatic, manual wind only offer a longer power reserve.
Would I be right in thinking, that a combination of the two in theory might be able to go longer than 72 hrs.

A good proportion of the manuals out there allow hand winding as well. It doesn't add any capacity to the power reserve, it simple allows your to quickly power them up if they haven't been worn in a while.

There are some manual wind models with power reserves greater than 72hrs. They tend to be more more rare however. Panerai has some manual wind 8 and 10 day models that produce that type of reserve by using multiple winding barrels and special high strength springs.

Clutch slip? Everytime I do that, I lay rubber on the road!

Automatic. 168 hours power reserve. look for IWC. the main spring is able to do that. and self-winding is fast, thanks to double paws.
