Women Wearing 40mm Rolex Watches - Trend or Fad?

Curious to hear your thoughts - will women continue to wear 40mm Submariners, Daytonas, etc? Or will they revert back to smaller sizes?

Personally, I think the oversized watch trend is here to stay.

Women's fashion is so much more dynamic than men's - it's a much more difficult question where women are concerned. It's also a very small segment of women who wear a men's Rolex. You certainly see it, yes. But not often.

That picture looks stupid. It works on some women but that looks daft.

My girlfriend is wearing my sub C. I had to remove every possible link to get it to fit.

After 4 months I'm pretty sure I'm never getting it back. Hoping fashion goes back to more refined women's watches.

But I doubt it. The ceramic bezel sparkles, the polished sides look dressy. I think the trend is here to stay - just like the trend for larger men's watches. :-(

There is a definite trend toward women wearing larger watches, just as there is for men.

However, I do not believe that the trend is here to stay, as it would be completely unique in the history of man for a fashion to remain static forever.

Hemlines change, the cut of trousers change, the width of belts, ties and lapels, the shape of shoe's toes change, as do the the soles from thin to thick and back again. Hairstyles dictate long hair and then short hair and sometimes hair that point to the sky and sometimes looks like you slept in a dumpster.

We are in an age of wretched excess in terms of almost every fashion from cars to watches, but there is nothing to make us believe that there will not be a return to more discreet fashion trends.

It is simply the way. What expands must contract.

Some women can wear a Mens watch and they look quite good because their wrist shape works. Sometimes it just doesn't work at all, the other day I saw a lady wearing a Panerai and it looked awful on her wrist

There is NO DOUBT that 40mm Rolex watches look GREAT on them.

I know I agree Milos, and I hope this 'trend' never stops. IMO a large watch on a women ranks right up there with blue-jeans, t-shirts & baseball hats. Sexy!


And IMO it's no longer a trend. The 'large watches' have been around a decade now, and to much satisfaction of people like me. It's just a different style. Too many men (and women) don't want a 40mm watch, they like the 42-45mm segment and manufactures have just finally given those consumers what they want. It's not going to replace the 36-40mm range, it's just a complimenting segment for them for the consumer who won't wear a sub-40mm watch, and who prefer something larger than 40mm's.

Now I do think most of the brands and models that are in the 45-50mm segment is a fashion trend and those may taper off eventually. But the 42mm-45mm segment is here to stay (IMO), and I for one am very happy for that. After all, as long as it compliments & doesn't replace the others models, more choices is always good.
