Thread: If you could only pick one..................

.................which would it be? I would like to buy a Rolex but have it be as versatile as possible. I would like to be able to wear it on vacation to the beach, with jeans and t-shirts but also be able to dress it up with a suit or coat and tie. I guess I am looking for the perfect sport/dress watch that can perform both really well.
    Suggestions? Thanks.

Default SS or TT Sub Date

Didn't James Bond wear a stainless steel Sub with a Tux?

I recently saw a gentleman wearing a two-tone Sub Date Ceramic black dial with a dark business suit and tie and it looked very classy without being overstated.

Without a doubt, either SS or TT also works great worn with casual clothes.

On the beach, it is in its realm.

Yep, I usually recommend the Submariner if you plan to get "one and only one" Rolex:

TT ( SS / YG ) Sub C black dial would take care of your requirement. Please keep us posted.

Take a peak at a GMT II C. A bit more features, and IMO, I like the Polished Center Links.

I would second the vote for GMT-ii C as it has the added GMT versatility (ie James Bond World traveller?)

    Dress-down: Sport, rugged, in SS.

Dress-up: Polished centre links, Ceramic bezel, in TT or full Gold

My choice would be (and is) the Yachtmaster is ss/gold. The Sub and GMT's are nice, but to me, the Yachtmaster ratchets up the "class" just a bit for the times you want to dress up.

Thanks for all the replies and thoughts. I was leaning towards the 16610 at the start. I personally cannot justify spending the extra $1500 for the new 116610. Yes, it is a beautiful watch but after reading JBH II comparison of the 2, I am going with the 16610. I am a s/s black dial guy. For some reason I just can't bring myself to wear anything gold, even my wedding band is platinum. SO now I start the journey for a nice pre-loved 2008-2010 16610.
    Wish me luck.

Consider the 16610 LV Anniversary Sub with the green bezel. You can swap to black bezel, but the large hands and hour markers are a nice bonus.
