    Default Black & White Omega...

Been messing around with some black and white stuf tonight. I've been trying, for the longest time, to get a good shot, black and white or otherwise, of the "OMEGA" logo. I'm kinda' happy with this one, although I still think I can do better:

This was shot under a typical desk lamp...

Great shot Steve - I really enjoy playing with the b&w options in PS!

    Thanks, John.

At this point, I'm only using the very labor intensive and technically advanced "desaturate" feature", and then adjusting the brightness & contrast to taste.

One of these days I need to get more into what Photoshop can do. I'm still a wildly inexperienced rookie when it comes to using PS7.

What I was trying to get in the above shot, more than anything, was the Omega logo nice and sharp. It's okay, but I think I may mess around with the "live view" feature on the 40D so I can nail it...

    :)

    great pic Steve

when I first saw it the O M E G A logo jumped off the page at me, then I noticed the bracelet in the background.. neat shot

you took this with your 40D and the sigma macro? low f/stop and fast shutter but about where did you shoot it. just trying to compensate for the light level and saturation levels change you see.. if it had a red seconds hand tip, you'd have a whole different watch:D

    Thanks!

I think it was shot at about f/4; I wanted it as low as I could get for a narrow depth of field. With the Sigma 17-70mm, the lowest you can go when zoomed to 70mm is f/4.

I'm jonesin' for a true macro with a nice, low f/stop...

You REALLY need to play with the b&w options in CS3 or CS4 (which I'm now using) - just as simple to use as desaturate, but with far more variation options.
