Default Patek sacrifice, or was this the best decision I could have made?

I have been saving for the 5135p, i was about half way there. Would have the rest in Sept... Then one day I looked at my 8mos pregnant wife. Mothers day is comming and her birthday in 2 mos.. Never has given me crap about anything, and she is the primary $ earner... I just yesterday purchased her a Patek with my watch $... Now, she knows how badly I wanted the watch, and she knows what a Patek is, and I always detected a bit of Patek desire in her voice. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, I pulled the trigger on a nice 4905.. So it looks like this year wont be my Patek year, but at least we will have one in the house.. Maybe If I find a less expensive one I like I still might get one, however I believe in saving for exactly what you want or you will regret it.. Maybe a 5056p.... What are some Pateks in 30 k range over 40mm?

I am just venting a bit, but I am sure when I see har face when she sees the watch, I will know I made the correct decision...

    Thanks

Well I'm currently on a 5135 quest too, but not the platinum version (the RG). I'm also hoping to have it this year, especially since the rumor is it'll be announced in 2 weeks it's being discontinued. If so, it'll be bad for those of us wanting one as prices will undoubtedly climp as soon as it's announced...

Unfortunately there aren't many Patek's 40mm's or above and under 30K, unless you want the Nautilus.

You can get a 5135 (pre-owned) in white gold for the 30K though. Have you considered that as an option? You'd be sacrificing the platinum, but you'd "have your foot in the door" so to speak, and a WG 5135 is nothing to thumb your nose too. Plus, as prices increased if you wanted to upgrade to platinum it would be easier. Yes, the platinums will climb in price, but so would the value of your WG 5135, making the climb a bit less steep than just saving for it.

Just a thought to consider.... Good luck on the quest!

For me there is no question - the 5135. Hands down. Plus, I'm just not a big fan of UN... But to me the 5135 will win over almost everything out there in it's class, it's one of my all-time favorites.

congratulations, what an unselfish decission !!
    Respect

About the watch ... don't mind, one day you'll find what you like. Maybe wait another 2 weeks and see what Basel offers
Or look for a secondhand 5135 in white gold (if you like platinum, white gold is the best, cheaper option) Besides the 5135 is one of those Patek which looses quite some value on the second hand market. I think you'll find them with a 35 till 40% discount

    Unknown,

Why do you say white gold is better than platinum? If this solely due to the cost difference, your personal opinion on the 2 metals or is there a technical reason? Just curious as to the reason behind this - especially if there's a technical reason, thanks!

    not a technical reason.
But I think if you want a platinum piece you like white metal and imo the price difference between platinum and white gold is wrong.
If money isn't a problem all my watches would be platinum ;-)
But if the price is an important factor I would prefer white gold.

The 5135 white gold is around 30K EURO and the platinum around 40K EURO
Well, for the 10K differentce I would buy another nice watch (why not a sporty Aquanaut or if you strech your budget with 3K a nice 5711 Nautilus)

Ah, Ok. I follow you.. And yea, as much as I like platinum the price difference between the two is

But I will admit I love the extra weight of the platinum, and the whiter, hi-gloss shine. Too bad it's so expensive though...
