    Hi Chris,

Welcome to Watch Talk Forums & the Patek Philippe forum.

Please do take a minute to review the Patek Welcome thread here:

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE PATEK PHILIPPE FORUM 'Without Walls' !

As you'll see we don't discuss which watch will be a better investment or collectible piece nor the likelihood a certain model will become a collectible. And honestly, virtually every watch is a poor investment article - even most Patek's. Yes, there's exceptions to every rule, but as a rule a watch as an investment will perform far worse than true investment articles.

Thanks Scott, and apologies for breaching the rules on my first post!

Problem i have is that an AD rang me to offer me the watch last week and as my knowledge is limited i could really do with some independent advice or at least more info on which to base my decision as its serious money.

THe dealer told me that it's the last watch of its type to be made as they are bringing in a new movement which seems unlikely to me given that it seems to be a fairly new addition to the range

    regards

No worries, happens all the time..

As to the price, I'd check the sites like eBay & other sales sites to see what these models have sold for. Be sure to check completed sales, not open ones. You can ask members here if they think a price is fair or not if you want to share that price. That's certainly OK. It's the speculation of future value & such we really try to stay away from. I honestly don't know what the price is truly selling for or worth, so I'll let others speak to that. And again, if you want to post roughly what the sellers asking I'm sure some of the experts will advise if it's fair or not.

As to the second question on the movement, I'll leave that to the others. I'm way too much of a Patek newbie to answer it. BUT, I've learned for watches in general AD's usually don't know the latest & greatest changes and they can exaggerate greatly, and Patek may technically release a new movement number, but it may just be an updated example of the same movement with a slightly one-off number & really not that big a deal. I remember a discussion here recently on a watch getting a new movement, but it's just a updated version of the same (I think it was the 315 vs. 316). But again, others far more knowledgeable can & will chime in for you shortly I'm sure..

Either way, it's a STUNNING watch...

Scott, it was 315 vs 324 - both relatively "modern" calibers.

5970 is a totally different - more of an oldfashion chrono
caliber but with some elaborate improvements and decoration
    done by Patek.
It has been confirmed by Patek that they are going
completely "in house", therefore Chris, your AD is correct when
said that this is one of the last pieces he will receive that is based
on Nouvelle Lemania ebauché....and that is why models
    such as 5004, 5020, 3970, 5970, 5070 etc...that are
based on these Lemánia calibers have been sought after the last
    few years.

Sorry to hear it's gone.. But, I do think it's better to miss out on a good deal than buy into a bad deal you only thought was good..

Hopefully another one will cross your path soon.

The 5970 is a GORGEOUS watch.
If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep the streets even as Michelangelo painted or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, 'Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.' Martin Luther King
