I've been looking for an inexpensive diver to swim in for a while, but I've finally given up and trying to figure out which of my current watches would do the trick.

I have one Invicta, a lovely submariner lookalike with a beautiful purplish face, and blue bezel and display back. it says 200M but I don't think I should swim in a watch with a display back. anyone tried it?

Personally, I don't swim in my watches. However, with a rating of 200m, your Invicta diver should be fine for swimming.

It should be fine. Just make sure the crown is screwed in.

Absolutely! Mine have been swimming, snorkeling, river rafting, hot tubs, sauna and shower. I have three pro-divers(sub lookalikes), the oldest from 2005 and they take abuse very well and keep good time. Never had a problem. The display back won't give you any trouble unless you get a few hundred feet down, but at that point you would probably be using a dive computer anyway.

I've heard that the rule of thumb is 50m is good for washing hands, 100m ok for swimming, over 200m good for diving.

I've gone swimming with my 8926 in the past and it still runs fine today.

I go swimming with my 2614 (invicta's answer to the orange monster) every weekend...no problems what so ever

Like Boscoe said, make sure the crown is screwed down. With that in mind, I never go in the water regardless of rating with a watch that does not have a screw down crown/pushers.

If a watch has at least 200m resistance, I'll swim with it. Any less and it'll be sitting by the pool sun bathing ;).
