Default So much for the Reserve pieces not being discounted!

I posted some of this in the other thread.

Invicta is lowering the selling price dramatically on some of their reserve pieces. I along with many other consumers were under the impression that they were not going to drop the selling price on the reserve pieces or at least not by much. My Reserve Speedway dropped from about $500 to now $300 seriously devaluing my piece.

Now for those who want a real nice reserve piece at a much better price, now is a pretty good time since they are lowering the price dramatically on some of the early designs. I guess they do what they gotta do to get rid of the old inventory. But that means buyer beware if you think your reserve piece is going to hold its value, because the reserve quartz version of the speedy just lost over a 3rd of its value.

Now I don't purchase my pieces as an investment. I buy 'em to wear and enjoy, but it s*cks to know that I could have had the same piece a year or two later at a much cheaper price. What was once an X dollar watch is now a Y dollar watch. I'm not one who flaunts the price, but for some strange reason I look at my wrist and think, "Baby, you just ain't as valuable as you once were!" I guess I'm half-kidding on that one.

IMO, Invicta has tainted the elite image they were trying to give their reserve line by these price reductions. Whenever anyone buys a reserve piece they should have in the back of their mind that it's value might drop like lead!!!

It's a tough thing to try to balance supply and demand. If Invicta had made less of these models then there would have been a outcry of protest. But when there is overproduction then there is the issue of having to drop prices to clear the shelves. Darned if you do darned if you don't.

The difference is that you would've had to wait a year or two for the discount. This is the way it is for many goods and services. Computer games for example: $50 on release day, but wait two or three months, and you're likely to get it for $30, or even $20 (depending on the title).

My suggestion is to buy because you like something, not because of its supposed value. Because to be honest, if one's interested in an investment, Invicta is clearly not what one should be buying.

The price drop is and has always been the practice.

Pay full price to be first on the block or wait and get a deal...

Wait to long you might miss out... But, theres always something coming around the bend... Always... What? I said always...

I must presume you and others "believed" this because basically, that is what the Lalo and his TV sales persons said.

To believe the Lalo, or not to believe the Lalo, that, is the question.

But to be technically fair, when the Lalo and his gang say, "you will never see this watch at this price again!" and then later it is lower, they did not tell a lie. They (he) simply misled you.

Also to be fair, I am wearing one of my favorite watches right now and it is an Invicta. Granted, it is not a reserve but it is indeed an Invicta. At the price I paid (less than $100) if it stopped working I would most likely buy another, just like it! However, I have no confidence or trust in anything that comes out of the mouth of Lalo or his gang. If I like it, I buy it, but I don't expect great QC or CS and that is why I stay with the low end stuff.

Well said. Many people love the watches and take the rest with a grain of salt.

The issue isn't the discount, it's The Lalo bull and hype.
No consumer should ever begrudge a company dropping its prices.
However, when the initial sales pitch is: we'll never discount these watches (made as an inducement for you to buy at top dollar) and its repeated over and over again slashing prices is a breach of promise to all the customers who bought.
Invicta frequently cries wolf. Lalo consistently misrepresents (or outright lies). This is a documented pattern of behavior based on years of observation.
So now, no one should ever be surprised with Invicta says one thing and does another.
    This is NOT a bash.
    It's fact.
And I think even the most die-hard fans knows it.
The question is: why do we put up with it?
There are so many watch brands, who needs to deal with a huckster?

I'm not sure how one would think that these products would not get discounted. It will always come to supply vs demand. The Reserve line is supposed to be the next step up in regards to quality vs the standard offerings. That's just really marketing by the genius that is Eyal.

In the few retail stores I have seen an Invicta display, I have yet to see a Reserve product. Invicta is always looking at the big picture, which is generating more income. I'm sure even at the discounted price, they are making a profit. If the worst situation comes with any left overs, they'll pop up on the Sunday Run which many will jump on by rationalizing that they got a $500 piece for $125.

Invicta makes good products, but buying on 1st run unless you really desire the watch is a bad idea. :)
