    :):)

ok Omegaphiles, there are a bunch of dive watches out here and a lot of talk of Omega dive watches, how many of you have an actual need for a "dive watch"? who has been scuba diving with their Omega? O.K. who just loves the rugged good looks and the versatility of not having to worry about getting it wet? any answer to the above questions is O.K. BTW.. I'd own divers watches even if I weren't a diver I'm sure.

let me say I haven't been in the water since late Oct-early Nov 07 so I'm about to dry out and I'm going to remedy that very soon.. then stay wet the most of the rest of 08

everything in the Omega lineup thats considered a dive watch is most certainly a REAL dive watch.. we all might have our preferences to which model and find one more attractive or applicable than another, but IMHO Omega has done it right, given choices but made them all worthy of the title
    "dive watch"...

whether you, dive... snorkel...swim.. or anything in between, these Omegas are up to it and look darn nice while doing it.

Hi Terry. I love to snorkel and hopefully one day will get a go at proper scuba diving. I've had a go in Tenerife ages ago and loved it. I don't actually need a divers watch, I just love the style they offer.
But then again, how many unfit people have you seen in sweat pants and Nikes? The closest they get to any sort of sport is about 6ft from the TV showing the latest football, rugby, F1 etc etc? They don't need them, they just like them.

I have no "need" for a diver watch.

But "need" has never stopped me before...

I am a serious diver. I have been dry since early 2005 but plan to dive again soon. I have not yet taken my SMP diving, since I have only had it 5 months. Anyway, I really will use it as a dive watch. And, yes, I would wear dive watches even if I didn't dive.

Like you mentioned, dive watches look great and are rugged. I try to "baby" my SMP, simply because I don't want it scratched up.

One of these days, I will take the time to photograph my beloved SMP and figure out how to post pics. Hopefully, I will have dive pics as well.

    best regards,

    diver

No need for a real "dive' watch, but I like having a versatile sport/flying watch that once or twice a year I know will end up in the water for some snorkeling or boating. I don't feel comfortable sending the Speedy on those water missions.

I live on a lake and the ocean is 20 miles away,so I swim a ton.I've done some snorkling in the Florida Keys and this year I'm going to get certified to dive for my fall trip to the Keys.My wife is a certified diver and has done a lot of diving in Maine and Florida,so she knows some nice places to dive.I will hopefully be wearing a new 2254.50 by then.

With humidity of 60% or more every day, and often up to 100%, diving or not I need one. If I were to buy a new Omega it would definitely be a Seamaster. I like metal bracelets too, since the leather straps on my watches get a funky white mold on them if I don’t wear them all the time. Even my Chronograph Divers fogged up living where I am, simply from pushing the chronograph buttons in this nasty humidity. I like a watch I can wash and wear. Maybe I'm germ-phobic or something but I like to clean my watches with a toothbrush and anti-bacterial soap after a shower as I’ve mentioned before. Plus living 3 miles from the Atlantic Ocean I never know when I may feel the need to go for a cooling dip on a hot summer day. Oh, and the rain, the hurricanes, and did I mention the humidity [lol]? Right now it's 70 degrees, raining, and humidity of 85%. Mold is everywhere; don't need it inside my watch.

Hey, Triton, stop by and pick up me and my wife on your way down to the Keys. I've wanted to go there for years and just never got 'round to it. Some nice places nearby me to go snorkeling and swim with the Manatees, and many people use full dive gear since it's usually somewhat colder water when the Sea Cows are inland [usually during the winter months].

Contrary to what's been often said, I actually enjoy water.........with my meals

No seriously pals, I do like water even if I don't swim I do enjoy rock pools but you don't need a diver's watch for that. The most useful aspect of a diver's bezel for me is for timing parking meters.

Now if I were a diver I'd be happy to use any of the dive watches in Omega's collection. I think the new black Bond is very attractive with its' lacquered dial but I love the PO as well with its' double AR coating. While IMHO the PO is perhaps an updated version of the 2254.50, the Bond is quite unique in that it can be both dressy and as much of a tool watch as you'd like it to be Anyone thinking it's not up to the job needs to think again or look at Fergie's pictures.

Now after all that, I've rather forgotten the question

Y'all have a nice evening now

I have no need for a dive watch or for that matter any of the other special complications on the watches that I own. I just like them and want them. The closest that I get to diving is when I fall when I'm flyfishing in a river. It's nice to have a good water resistant watch when that happens, but the truth is I don't need a watch when I'm fishing and I could get by without one the rest of the time. My home is full of clocks, my cars have clocks and my cell phone has a clock. I just love watches and pocket watches and so I always have one on or with me. I don't need a chronograph, but I have several. The biggest use I have for them is to check the speedometers in my cars. They are nice for parking meters, too. I certainly don't need a moon phase watch, but I like the look and I like to know when a full moon is coming and when a new moon is at hand. None of this hinges on need like a deep sea diver would NEED his Seamaster or PO or Sea Dweller or Submariner, or a railroad man would need his railroad watch. Hal
