Default PO now or wait for the PO w/8500?

I'm trying to figure out if I should buy now or wait until the new PO with 8500.

Word is that the PO will get the 8500 movement next year and will probably be introduced at Basel 2011. Typically it takes 3-6 months for the new models to hit the stores.

Having said this, note that the 8500 movement is larger than the 2500 and will require re-design of the PO case. This occurred with the new Aqua Terra and resulted in a thicker, chunkier case. I suspect that the 8500 PO will be 1-2mm thicker and rumor has it that the PO will no longer be available in the 42mm size.

Pundits predict that the new PO will also feature the new ceramic/LiquidMetal bezel.

This evolution will also result in the MSRP increasing from $3950 to the $6500-$7000 range; i.e., competitive pricing with the new Rolex Sub.

Any idea, if the prices of the older PO will fall or rise, once the newer PO is available?

It's extremely unlikely they'll fall. I can't remember the last time any brand lowered a MSRP. I wouldn't be surprised if they're at least a little higher than they are now at that time since we're talking probably 12-18 months before the new PO is available (from today). Maybe even more. Remember, the new AT with the 8500 took 14-16 months to see a store after it's introduction at Basel.

pardon the noob question- but cost aside, is there any predicted downside to owning the hypothetical new watch? Is the 8XXX mov't family supposed to have any baggage other than increased size?

again, apologies for the question, but I am in the same boat- debating whether or not to wait. If the expected price for a PO with the new engine is going to be north of 6 grand, why not just pop for the Aqua Terra?
