    My Watchbox

    Default leather straps

    Hello all,

I have always loved watches but am VERY new to collecting them and even newer to this forum. Currently my collection consists of a Tag Heuer Carrera (non-chronograph) and an Omega Speedmaster Professional. Both of them come in stainless steel bracelets, but I am considering getting a brown strap for the Tag and a black one for the Omega. I would like them both to come wiht a deployment clasp. Just curious how much you all think that will cost and what your general thoughts are to leather bands to those two watches.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and feedback.

Hello and welcome to the forum. You have a couple very nice watches for someone so new to collecting. Watch Talk Forums has a few sponsors that sell straps - look at the banners on the bottom of the main page. Several of us have bought from The Watch Prince with great experiences, and they give a 10% discount to our members (which would be you regardless of your post count ). Deployant clasps will vary in price as widely as straps do. I think I recall a member Steve who bought some very nice ones from TWP recently. I'll alert him to this thread and let him reply.

I've seen the Speedmaster on black leather racing straps with the perforations and they look fantastic. You'll have a variety of options to choose from. Post links to the ones you see from our sponsors and ask opinions if you wish - we're always happy to give our thoughts.

I've bought a number of deployment clasps and a few straps from The Watch Prince. When I need deployment clasps in the future, I will buy them from The Watch Prince, as well. I've purchased a few different styles from them, and all are top quality and, in my opinion, very fairly priced.

Even better than the quality of the products is the level of customer service; simply fantastic.

There are a lot of outfits out there selling straps and clasps. Thanks to the quality of products and service I've received from The Watch Prince, those other outfits will never know me...

Leather works well with the speedy, not sure about the Tag but Im sure it would be fine. Some have said The Watch Prince is good to buy from.

    Happy hunting.

Thank you all for your feedback and comments. After A LOT of thought I have decided not to get a leather band for my Tag. I saw a similar model the other day in a brown leather strap and just didnt like it. However, I have ordered a black croc strap for my Speedmaster. I know its a bit extra, but I have also splurged for the Omega deployment strap. I watnt to keep it as authentic as possible and even though I will be getting more leather straps in teh future, I can keep the deployment. Anyway, I should get the strap and deployment in a few weeks and will post pictures at that time.

    Thanks again!

Looks good! Push the flower button on your camera to put it in macro mode - this will give you better close-ups.

    Default straps for Omegas

    lovewatches,
Very nice choice of straps, especially with the depolyment. I am a bracelet guy. I have never had a leather strap with a deployment but that is probably the way I would go if I felt the need for a leather strap. I have been frustrated in the past by leather straps breaking at the flex point where they bend to buckle. I think the deployment would satisfy me by avoiding the constant flexing of the leather.
Anyway, I think your choice of both the leather and the deployment look great! That said, who cares what I think. Get what you love and enjoy it.

    best wishes,
    Jeff

Like Diver, I am a bracelet guy, but on some of my watches I wear leather in the winter. On those leather straps I use a butterfly deployant clasp and like them very much. However, now that the heat of summer has come to Georgia, it is back to a bracelet on all of my watches except for a couple of them. BTW, I never take either of my SMP's nor my Speedy Pro off of their factory bracelets and the same for my EXP II. Cheers, Bill P.
