I apologize Jaguar Boy. I guess ALL brands have their fare share of issues, including Toyota! Just as long as the point is made, and doesn't turn into a long rant. Glad your 4th PO is behaving nicely.
    Regards,

Sorry you had so many issues. While not a chrono, my PO has been rock solid accurate and durable since the day I got it in 2006.

    Default Clarification

Just for the record, it was my friend who had the unbelievable run of dud PO chronos. My problem was three dud Speedmasters in a row, including two that died in the first few weeks of ownership. It was Chuck Maddox who told me the best Speedie movement is the tried and tested manual wind 1861 in the Professional Moon Watch. As for the Seamaster PO Chrono, a veteran watch repairer told me there are growing problems with the co-axial escapement fitted, among others, to the 3313 movement. I realise you Omega buffs will want to take out a contract on me, but he made the point that Rolex tests their movements thoroughly before marketing them. Omega puts out so many variants it makes your head spin. A percentage have problems that put people like me off ever owning another of the brand.

You'll get no argument from me on that point. John (forum owner & member JBHII) and I discussed this topic last year on a snow day:

ARTICLE: Who Makes a Better Movement? Rolex or Omega?>>>>

It's not just a co-axial problem with the 33xx Piguet based chronograph movements. There are serious issues with weak points where the chronograph engages.

You will certainly get no argument from me on the quality of Rolex movements or their fastidious research and development. I am a little surprised though that more Omega loyalists have not been defending the product and the brand - chrono calibre issues and all.

While not an Omega loyalist per se, in my experience, Omega makes a great watch as evidenced by my earlier post. Certainly, others must agree?

Yes, they do make an excellent watch - just not in this case IMO. As much as I like Omega I have no problem recognizing their shortcomings. Facts don't lie.

Fair enough. I just thought it was odd that a Rolex guy is the one defending Omega's honor.

    intresting post Mr Jag
if someone could set up a poll with regards to this post where by all omega owners vote for e.g
    omega - no faults
    omega - fault
    would purchase again
    would not purchase
that would give us an idea on how reliable the omega brand is, i can't do this as i wouldn't know how to set this post up
    thanks

Many Omegamaniacs would like to see the whole series scrapped including me. I've never heard a single issue with the 1164 chronograph which is based on the Valjoux 7750 and has the date at 3.
Whew! good to know as I am planning on getting a Speedmaster Date with the 1164 movement.
