Red face Just Got a Muehle Glasshuette!

My father just passed this watch down to me. The strap is too long for me, so I'll need a new one. Any suggestions? I'm considering a Staib Milanese-style bracelet.

Congratulations, Marklar! Nice watch! And I love that instrument box display case! I see this is your very first post...so I'd like to be among the first to welcome you to Watch Talk Forums.

As far as a bracelet, I'm not sure. That's a great-looking leather strap! Are you changing to a bracelet to preserve it? Oh...I see, you stated in your post that it is too long. I was just wondering why you were switching to a metal bracelet. I have a number of leather-strapped watches, and I like leather on some of my watches, but I usually only wear a leather strap during the winter months when there is no chance of perspiration damaging them. During the summer months, I usually stick to either metal bracelets or rubber straps to save damaging my leather straps with sweat.

Thanks! I normally wear a bracelet on all of my watches, they're more comfortable to me and a leather strap doesn't last long on my wrist. I live in the south where it's hot and humid. I think this watch looks better with a strap, but I'm hoping that a steel mesh bracelet would be a good look for it.

I have another question: I've been reading up on these watches and it seems that they are known for having Swiss movements that have been modified. However, mine seems to have a plain Valjoux 7750 movement, as far as I can tell the only thing Muehle Glasshuette did to it was to engrave their name on the rotor. The regulator looks to be standard, not the "woodpecker" type.

Is this because it is one of their earlier watches? Did they start modifying the movements later?

Wow that is a beautiful watch! Congrats!

This will be my excuse to buy a really nice watch, to hand it down to my son

    Wonderful MG- enjoy!

The Milanese will look terrific on it- personally, I would prefer a dark strap.

That is correct. Only recently did M-G begin performing the level of modifications they do to their Swiss movements.

Incidentally, we have several watch strap vendors here on WATCH TALK FORUMS. I'm sure they can help you with a new strap.
