    Default Domed saphire

From all of the pictures I have viewed it looks as though Lum-Tec watches have flat saphire crystals.

What are the advantages or disadvantages of domed saphires? Are they more expensive to produce?

    Just curious.

Only slightly more expensive to produce (about $5 more), but easier to scratch or break. Our divers will have domed sapphires as it is better for pressure resistance at great depths.

Ahhhh. thats why deep water pressure vessels have no flat surfaces. All windows are convex and a sphere is the optimla shape to withstand pressure in all directions

plus I have found that there is some distortion with a domed crystal when viewing from an angle. I prefer the flat one.

The distortion will only be more obvious on a thicker crystal, and visible when viewing at extreme angles. A double domed crystal will minimize the distortion to a minimum.

Double domed? Now you've gone and done it. I'm in the dark on the meaning "double domed".

Most domed crystals are flat on the inside. Double domed means the underside is domed as well. Easier to break, less distortion. Double AR makes most of the distortion dissapear.
