    Default Challenge Question! Vintage Movado

Now here's a challenge for you. Does anyone know how to reassemble this vintage Movado Sport from the 40's? The problem is that the anti-magnetic/dust inner cover blocks you from screwing down the setting lever screw once the stem is re-inserted which is obvious, but the problem is it has a complete hole for the stem instead of just a slot. That means it covers the back of the movement when in place and the stem is secured in a complete hole as you can see in the photo. I don't want to cut it into a slot, but I can't think of a way to do it. I'm sure one of you experts out there have run into this before and will know. Any help much appreciated!

well, there's a reasonable chance that the dustcover doesn't actually go with that watch. i mean, i've seen those kind of dust covers before, and they have almost always been for movements that use a split-stem and either front load or have an unusual cup designed case. for a standard style back-loader with a standard style stem that releases from a screw in the back of the movement- well, i just can't see how that would work. i think you may have a volunteer part from some other watch.

Thanks very much for your reply. You may be correct, but when the cover is not installed, the movement moves a bit in the case, indicating to me that it serves a ring adapter case fit function as well. I've seen these covers as part of other old Movado Sports also but only in pictures, so I do not know if they also have the solid hole in the side.

If you could take another picture or two I can tell you . Is that casing bracket covered on top ? Many of these dust covers/movement brackets are two piece and you need a razor blade it seperate them . Better pics will get you a definetive answer . I did the vintage restorations for the Movado group for 6 years .

Yes, please push your camera's button with the flower on it to take better close-ups. Also, shoot in indirect sunlight and turn off the flash. I thought the challenge question was "Is this a watch or a very small can of tuna?".
Can you help me fix my watch?..Where does this: go inside this?: I guess that's what I get for buying it on eBay!!!

Well, hat's off to Omega564 - you were correct. That cover is two piece. All those years of yours at Movado doing vintage restorations pays off again. Upon your suggestion, I gently separated the two and voila -problem solved. The seam is ever so small - it looks like a machining line.

Watch is all back together but I think there might be a need for a cleaning and lube. It now runs intermittently when wound and its probably due to so much of my monkeying around in there. That leads me to ask who in the US would you recommend for servicing it? Perhaps Omega564 still does vintage Movado servicing perhaps?

In any event, thanks to all who responded and helped me with this challenge.
