Default What is your favorite style?

What is your favorite style of watch? Diver, dress, race inspired, etc.?

I'll be the first to answer. Yellow or rose gold dress chronograph. I love the seeming incongruity of the combination, and some look just as formal (to me anyway) as the traditional no complications dress watch. I don't have one and doubt I will because if I were to buy one i would want the real deal - solid gold, auto, beautiful guilloche dial, etc., and I don't think I'll ever spend as much on a watch as our Jeep. I've considered some of the less expensive Chinese movement chronos, but I can't get past the fact that they are gold plated rather than solid gold.

So what's your favorite style and do you have one of that style?
There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.

I guess my favorites fall into two categories: dress and sport

Within the dress category I like simple and classic, day/date ok but no other complications (although my RW has date and second time zone)

for sport, I prefer divers, but not overly large ones, more like the Rolex Submariner, but no larger than a Breitling Steelfish. I don't generally care for chronos, but some do it right and look great (Daytona)

For practicality- Black dials with white numerals and hands. As I get older, they are easier to read in low light conditions.
For aesthetics- I seem to be drawn to any watch with the second hand being in a sub-dial at the 6- especially on the vintage watches.

Gold dress watches with symmetrical dials. With or without guilloché, date window optional, dial color doesn't matter as long as it adds to the presentation, and usually a round case. Stepped bezel and interesting lugs help. Manual wind a plus since it makes the watch slimmer.

I had no use for chronographs 2 or 3 years ago, but now I can't get enough of them. Luckily my collecting habits have evolved to where I don't buy everything in sight that catches my attention and then flip the ones which fall out of favor after 3 weeks at a loss. I tend to like subdials that contrast the main dial, and if they're larger than 39 mm cases I want an offset crown.

Lately complications have piqued my interest. A power reserve meter and/or moon phase might be in my future.
Can you help me fix my watch?..Where does this: go inside this?: I guess that's what I get for buying it on eBay!!!

Classic dress (two or three hands, no date) and classic (Rolex Sub-type) diver.

DIVERS! From understated to gaudy 70's, and modern Monsters! I love 'em all!
    Vintage for a dress watch.

I'm looking forward to reading this thread as it progresses. My taste runs to simple SS watches with a date as the only complication and vintage is better, especially with a tuning fork. I don't have a guilloche dial yet but hope that one is in the future along with some different colored dials. For variety an occasional diver but nothing over 40mm. Chronographs are fun to look at but I don't see owning one in the future, I guess I'm too practical to get a bunch of distractions that I would never use. This is about as close of perfect as I ever expect to get.

Being a genuine certified watchaholic, I must admit that if it ticks, I'm going to like it. I do prefer mechanical/automatics over any quartz watch. However, I also like a well designed quartz chronograph. so I'm not immune to their charms either.

So many watches, so little time.

That is akin to asking a lonely man what type of female companion he prefers. As he would say "they're all good!"
