    The case back looks nuke proof. I've never seen a glass crystal shaped like that. It looks like it might be molded or cast. Is it sapphire, mineral, or a composite?

    Yeah, these cases are awesome, monobloc, screw-crown and screw-in bezel to retain the crystal.
    2 pics of a couple 708's, this Haste and a later Aquadive, similar but not the same:





    The crystal is acrylic. The 708 Aquadive may have come with a mineral crystal, but I'm not sure.
    The 709 cases (round 50mm) have all been mineral that I've seen, regardless of name on dial or back.
