I like it, I've kicking myself for awhile for passing up a Victorinox Swiss Army Infantry.

There are many versions of the DM 500. I had an earlier SS version. There are, I believe, 2 new Ti versions, with the rest being SS combinations of PVD, bracelet and strap options.

The main attractions (to me) are the lumed bezel (rare) and magnified date wheel via an internal cyclops (very rare). Good watch, with an ok bezel and fit/finish. Too thick, too big and heavy for me though. The bracelet's let down by a stone-age clasp (good, milled deployant). The Ti version is overpriced for now.

Victorinox and Wenger are essentially playing the Swiss Made angle (SWISS Army, SWISS military). Many of their component parts are generic and sourced from HK. In fact, some of the bracelets/clasps are designs exclusive to Japanese watches.

Used to be good bang for the buck but not anymore unless via the discount channels.

I wonder why. I wonder why.

My favorite authorized dealer confines his inexpensive lines to Tissot and Victorinox Swiss Army. I bought one of the Officer's models in quartz some years ago and it is solid in design and performance. My wife has one with the University of Texas logo, exclusive to that shop, also a quartz, and it, too, works perfectly. Both were pretty good value for the buck when we bought them. The officer's model is a big watch but is relatively thin and works as well for business wear as for outdoors, etc. Here's a shot of mine:

I have friends that own Swiss Army watches (not this particular model), and they are very happy with them. Countless straps/bracelets and batteries later, they still function quite well.

I have owned a Swiss Army watch for nearly 10 years, and have never had trouble with it. It is one of my nicer watches!

Not sure I have ever heard that before, especially about Victorinox. They have to abide by the rules any company has to to print "Swiss Made" on the dial...
