    Default Full Wolf-Moon this month.

For those that follow the Farmers' Almanac, or those just interested in Full Moon names, January is the month of the Full Wolf Moon.
For myself, in the EST zone, the Full Moon will be at its' apex at 22:27 EST [10:27 pm] tonight.

Here's what it says about the meaning behind the January Wolf Moon, taken from the Farmers' Almanac...

Full Wolf Moon - January: Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. Thus, the name for January's full Moon. Sometimes it was also referred to as the Old Moon, or the Moon After Yule. Some called it the Full Snow Moon, but most tribes applied that name to the next Moon.

The time often used by world astronomers and observatories, for a Full Moon or phases, is more often seen as UTC, UST, GMT [Greenwich] or ZULU [military] Time.
That time this month is as follows, as taken from the U.S. Naval Observatory
Astronomical Applications Department - Phases of the Moon:
    2009 Phases of the Moon
    Universal Time
    Full Moon
    Jan 11th, 0327 hours UTC

I live in north/east Florida myself and just looked out east from our home, over the Atlantic Ocean [I'm about 3 miles due-west from the ocean where I live, as the crow [or the pelicans in this case] flies.
Heck yeah buddy, it DOES look HUGE!
Thanks for the reply, so I could go outside and see it as it rises up from over the ocean.
Very cool, to see it coming up over the horizon!
    Thanks again, for the reply!

Be careful of that moon Bryan. You know what happens to you when there's a full moon

I won't be able to see it because it's cloudy and the snow continues to fall:mad:

I'll do my best, Bro' Bob, but you know how us Wolf Dogs get during a Full Moon, especially me!

Dang, if I could send you some of our clear skies tonight and some warmth to melt all that snow up there, you'd have it in a flash!
My little pocket camera can't take good Full Moon shots, only my old SLR can and that's all packed away and I can't afford the film & developing.
If I could I'd take and end ya some Moon pics tonight, but in the meantime you can go to the Site I often use at the UNSO, showing "What the Moon looks like tonight" at the following URL...

I just looked outside, to the east, and the Moon is almost over the tree tops next to my house.
I can see parts of it through the tree branches and it does look large.
I'm going outside to the road so I can see it without the Live Oaks and Plm tress blocking my view.
Since it will be at it's apex in just @ 2-1/2 hours here, it should be right over my home and look really large, bright and very cool!

The Full Wolf Moon is just now rising over the trees here.
Took a few shots with my pocket cam, so these are the best I can do without my polarizing or Moon filters.
No manual setting on this camera either so the AE freaked out trying to adjust.
The first one looked kinda cool, with a halo around the Moon and the trees in dark bordering it...

I changed the ISO and WB, then took this one.
No halo around it now since it's risen higher in the sky, so less water vapor from the trees.
Still can't see the craters but it is very bright...

Took a 3H shot just awhile ago too, trying to capture my Moon Phase dial at near full apex.
Hard to do with a tiny pocket-cam, but it does work, sometimes.

New 3H lume shot, taken in honor of tonights' Full Moon in just an hour from now.
Ball Moon Phase, black dial, shot in total darkness.
Shot taken with Olympus Stylus 600 6.3MP All-Weather camera on mini-pod.
Used self-timer, ISO=1600 [high ISO makes it grainy], WB=Tungsten, Super-Macro mode...
