    Default Newly Aquired Vin. Hamilton.

    Friends,

I just won an auction for an old vintage hamilton. From all I can conjure the auction seems to have went for alot lower than comparable hamiltons are going for. If you would not mind, could one of you take a look at the auction and let me know what you think of the peice ? You have my upmost thanks.

Adam will have to provide expertise, but I'll provide a congratulations. You've got a good eye my friend. Check out the sales forum on WTF, one of the great members on WTF listed like 20 hamiltons for sale. My high recommendations for that!

That is a lovely buy, good price and lovely vintage watch.
I too started with Hamiltons, as they have some lovely varied styles.

Well done, please post some pictures AND comments after it arrives!!

By the way did you see the seller has a very cool Bullova to, although I prefer your Hamilton.

By the way, dial ect all look correct

    ENJOY!!!

As I thought, that was a great catch and a really nice price. Thank you for showing it. I'd like to see some action shots when you get it.

    Outstanding,

I was worried I had missed something but I researched the numbers on the movement and everything else seemed to check out. Of course I will post photos and comment on what little I know! Thank you for your time my friends, very much appreciated.

Congratulations on your purchase. You have now joined the Hamilton club. I was reviewing the previous posts for this thead, but did not see that anyone told you what you bought. Actually this initial purchase is a very, very interesting watch. It is a Hamilton Whitman, one of Hamilton's first attempts to fit the 980 movement into a 10k gold-filled watch. Although the Whitman was catalogued in 1939 and 1940, records seem to indicate that the first watches were not shipped until February 1940. Your watch was probably made in late 1940. The Whitman was not listed in the 1941 catalog. Although production numbers for the Whitman are not available, the fact that it was available for only about a year makes it a fairly rare watch. I have seen maybe three examples on Ebay in the last year. Depending on the condition of the case and movement, $79 seems like a great price for this item. In 1940, the Whitman was priced at $45.

That is outstanding, I was hoping to find out a bit about the peice. As to its condition, I believe there is a small dent at the 5 oclock position on the rear of the case that was repaired. Of course it should arrive in a few weeks and I will be able to let you all know how it looks! Thank you for taking the time to enlighten me. Look forward to more, the Hamilton Club is a fine place to be, I am trying to stick with American Watches.
