Many companies that made watchbands made other things, too. These bracelets are similar to watch bands, but Speidel, Flex-Let, and other brands produced cuff links, tie tacks, money clips, and more.

Yes, but we must consider the 1955 perspective:

Average yearly income: $4,137

Ford car: $1606-$2944

Gas: $.23

So $12.50 or more for a new Gemex or Speidel wasn't a small expenditure.
