Default Nothing As Sure As Change....

Well folks - going for a first here...... having started a new job this week I am corresponding with you from the Republic of Congo!!

I should hasten to add the RoC is the more benign of the two Congos; the better known more hostile one being the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

I'm sitting here in the capital city Brazzaville on the banks of the Congo River. The capital of the DRC (Kinshasa) is about 3 kms away on the other side of the river. [Trivia time: Kinshasa and Brazzaville are the two geographically closest capital cities in the world]

So I need to update my profile and, sadly, will replace the image of Victoria Falls in Zambia in my signature line. Just as soon as I find something worthy to photograph - which is going to be quite a challenge seeing as photography of public sights, buildings etc is actually illegal in this country!!

Will be setting up an office in the port city of Pointe Noire and high on the 'to-do' list is install high speed internet. Wouldn't want to lose touch with the WTF community - or ebay - would I!!

I'm looking forward to hearing stories about the Congo. Try not to get into trouble with your camera.

Congratulations...I think. Reading between the lines of your post, I'm not entirely sure if that's the response you're looking for.

    How about...GOOD LUCK.

At least you're not bored......I think. Congrats on the new location. We look forward to continued reports from the Congo - and beyond.

    Roger:

Good luck on the new job. I recommend you celebrate by buying a watch.

If there is a record for buying Hamiltons from the Congo, I'm sure you will break it.

I've located a few nice watches over the years in China and Hong Kong.

Wow Roger! No more wearing those expensive Hamiltons, unless you thrive on living dangerously.

Thanks for the best wishes all.....

Now ensconsed in our temporary premises at Pointe Noire; on the Atlantic coast.

Pretty place but I have the most AWFUL internet connection; one of those plug in USB modem things operating at between 5 and 14kbps. Tomorrow (Sunday) is the 50th anniversary of independence celebrations and Monday is a Public Holiday. Heading out into the jungle to see our exploration property Tues thru Thurs - so will have to wait until Friday to get the ball rolling on a decent internet service......

Being the first stint and all I wasn't brave enough to bring one of my Hamilton stable..... Making do with an Invicta diver. Figured if it got stolen or if I had to give it to some rascal then it would be no great loss. But don't tell the Invicta guys that hey!
